Women’s Basketball cruises past Cleary in dominant fashion

Lansing, Mich. – Women's Basketball put together another fantastic performance as they extended their win streak to six games with the 89-41 victory over the Cougars. The Golden Eagles were led by Olivia Kubik who put together 19 points and five rebounds. Stephanie Ainsworth also chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds for Cornerstone in the win. Abby Hall capped off the day with 12 points all from the fourth quarter including three deep balls. The Golden Eagles will quickly turn their focus back home as they take on Aquinas on Wednesday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m. 

Game Highlights – Cornerstone – 89 Cleary – 41
  • First Quarter
    • Both teams started off the game slow with the first bucket finally coming in the seventh minute of the game from a deep three pointer by Jaylee Long
    • Jaxi Long put together a smooth jumper for the Golden Eagles as they led 5-0 to start the game. 
    • Laura Innerebner added another bucket for Cornerstone as their offense was rolling early with a 7-1 lead. 
    • Maddie Schuur and Emma Costen tallied two more buckets for the Golden Eagles to continue their run as they led 12-1 at the two-minute mark. 
    • Stephanie Ainsworth closed out the first quarter for Cornerstone with a strong bucket down low to extend their lead to 18-7. 
  • Second Quarter
    • Stephanie Ainsworth came out red hot after the first quarter pep talk with seven straight points for Cornerstone. 
    • Olivia Kubik scored her first points of the game from behind the arc to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 19 points with seven minutes left to play in the half. 
    • Jaxi Long added another bucket for Cornerstone with a deep ball that extended the Cornerstone lead to 31-10 with four minutes left on the clock. 
    • The Golden Eagles continued to pour it in from three-point range as Olivia Kubik knocked down her second three pointer of the game. 
    • Jaylee Long and Olivia Kubik added pairs of free throws for Cornerstone as they held a strong lead down the stretch of the second quarter. 
    • Laura Innerebner closed out the half with a strong finish in the paint as the Golden Eagles led 40-21. 
  • Third Quarter
    • Olivia Kubik kicked off the third quarter with a smooth jumper to keep the Golden Eagles moving forward. 
    • Jaxi Long put together a strong drive on the next possession to add to the Cornerstone lead with eight minutes left on the clock.
    • Mackenzie Goodwin finally found her form with back-to-back buckets at the rim for the Golden Eagles to take a 48-23 lead. 
    • Olivia Kubik continued to shoot lights out from behind the arc with another pair of three-point baskets to continue the dominant Golden Eagle performance. 
    • Laura Innerebner scored at the two-minute mark of the third quarter which made the score 65-36. 
    • Emma Costen and Maddie Schuur finished the quarter with buckets as Cornerstone led 69-36 headed into the final quarter of the game. 
  • Fourth Quarter
    • Julie Ashbaugh knocked down a pair of free throws to start the scoring for Cornerstone in the fourth. 
    • Cornerstone continued to pour it on as Abby Hall nailed back-to-back three-point buckets to give the Golden Eagles a 77-38 lead. 
    • Stephanie Ainsworth added another bucket which extended the away squads lead to 40 points with six minutes left in the game. 
    • Abby Hall knocked down her third three pointer of the fourth quarter to continue the big-time performance from the Golden Eagles. 
    • Emma Steele and Julie Ashbaugh put together two more buckets for Cornerstone as there was only two minutes left to play. 
    • Abby Hall capped off her strong fourth quarter with a bucket and the foul to give Cornerstone an 89-41 victory over the Cougars. 
By the Numbers 
6 – Cornerstone tallied their sixth win in a row thanks to their result over the Cougars. 
12 – Abby Hall scored 12 points in the game all coming from the fourth quarter. 
100% – The Golden Eagles shot 12-12 from the free throw line making it their second consecutive game without a miss from the stripe.
