ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Softball opened conference with an offensive explosion in a doubleheader sweep of Rochester Christian.
Alyssa Braam threw a no-hitter in game one that saw the Golden Eagles win 9-0. In game two, four homeruns were hit on their way to an 18-1 victory. Softball scored 27 total runs on 24 total hits while holding Rochester Christian to just four hits and a run on the day. Softball is now 16-6 (2-0) on the year as they take on #10 Madonna for their home opener on Friday, March 28 starting at 3:30 p.m.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 9 Rochester Christian – 0 F/5
- Moriah Sprague came through with the first hit of the game in the top of the first as her single brought home Morgan Jenkins to give CU an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Sam Timmer would hit a triple to bring in Sprague to make it 2-0. Delaney Wilson would cap off the inning with a single to make it 3-0 after the top of the first.
- With two outs in the bottom of the second, Sam Timmer would come through once again as her single brought in two more Golden Eagle runners to make it 5-0.
- Alyssa Braam struck out the side in the bottom of the second to get the bats back up to the plate in the top of the third.
- With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the third, Morgan Jenkins would hit a double into centerfield to score two more to make it 7-0. Two batters later, Moriah Sprague would hit a double of her own to score two more as the Golden Eagles have taken a 9-0 lead after the third.
- Alyssa Braam has continued to work efficiently in this game on the mound as she pitched another scoreless inning as the game heads to the fifth inning with Cornerstone ahead 9-0.
- Cornerstone won game one of the doubleheader thanks to a run rule 9-0 as Alyssa Braam threw a no-hitter to highlight the victory.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 18 Rochester Christian – 0 F/5
- Cornerstone scratched across two runs in the top of the first thanks to back-to-back Rochester errors to take an early 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles would score another pair of runs in the top of the second thanks to a Morgan Jenkins triple and an Anna Griffioen ground out to make it 4-0.
- After two reached base with one out, Alexis Ashbay hit the first Golden Eagle homerun of the season to help Cornerstone extend their lead 7-0 after the top of the third.
- McKenna Gilde has continued to not allow much on the base paths as she worked another scoreless inning in the bottom of the third.
- For the fourth straight inning, the Golden Eagles have scored as a double from Delaney Wilson scored Anna Griffioen to make it 8-0. A couple batters later, Alexis Ashbay hit her second three-run homerun of the game to extend Cornerstones lead 11-0 after the fourth.
- It was a big seven-run inning for the Golden Eagles in the top of the fifth. The big hits in the inning came off the bats of Morgan Jenkins and Emma Boonstra as their homeruns helped make it a 18-0 Cornerstone lead.
- Rochester Christian scratched across a run in the bottom of the fifth but Cornerstone would go on to win game two 18-1.
