FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Men's Volleyball concluded their road trip with a 3-1 victory over Indiana Tech. It was a tight even battle all four sets that saw the Golden Eagles do just a little more on their way to victory.
Ernest Broaster recorded 18 kills as
David Galanes recorded 17 to lead the offense. Men's Volleyball improves to 19-6 (10-2) on the year as they return home to face off against Bethel on Friday, April 4 starting at 7 p.m.
Game Recap – #10 Cornerstone – 3 Indiana Tech – 1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22)
First Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 22
- Indiana Tech jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead thanks to a few kills.
- It continued to be all Warriors early in the first set as another kill made it 7-2.
- The Golden Eagles have slowly chipped away at Indiana Tech's lead as back-to-back errors made it 8-6.
- A 4-0 Golden Eagle run thanks to kills from Ernest Broaster and David Galanes gave Cornerstone a 10-9 lead.
- The Warriors have struggled with their serves as another error made it 15-14 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
- A 5-1 Cornerstone run forced Indiana Tech to use a timeout as the Golden Eagles saw a big block, big kill, and service ace in the run.
- A kill from Ernest Broaster put the Golden Eagles one point away from a first set victory.
- Indiana Tech didn't make it easy for the Golden Eagles as three straight points made it 24-22 before one last service error gave Cornerstone the first set 25-22 victory.
Second Set: Indiana Tech – 25 Cornerstone – 23
- Cornerstone jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to a kill from Brunno Peres and an ace from Ernest Broaster.
- A 4-0 Indiana Tech run saw them take their first lead of the second set 8-7 over Cornerstone after a service ace.
- The Golden Eagles used a run of their own as a 5-1 run saw them take a 14-12 lead after a kill from David Galanes and Ernest Broaster.
- It has continued to go back-and-forth in the middle of the set as a kill from David Galanes helped make it 18-16 in favor of Cornerstone.
- A late momentum flip in favor of Indiana Tech saw them take a 20-19 advantage over Cornerstone.
- David Galanes won't let Indiana Tech go down easy as back-to-back kills forced Indiana Tech to call a timeout as Cornerstone is down 24-23.
- Indiana Tech finds a kill out of the timeout to win set two 25-23.
Third Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 23
- The third set opened to a 2-2 tie after an Indiana Tech attack error.
- Indiana Tech has found three kills to take a 6-4 lead over the Golden Eagles early.
- It's been a set of runs as both teams traded 3-0 runs as the Golden Eagle run saw them take an 11-10 lead after back-to-back David Galanes kills.
- The second straight back-and-forth 3-0 runs favored Indiana Tech as theirs tied the third set at 14.
- A 4-1 Golden Eagle run highlighted by a block from David Galanes and Hubert Sliwinski helped make it 18-15.
- Indiana Tech has stormed back to it at 19 thanks to three straight kills.
- The Golden Eagles have done just a little more than the Warriors as kills from Ernest Broaster and Joshua Beaumont forced Indiana Tech into a timeout as they lead 23-21 late.
- Cornerstone found one last point as they take the third set 25-23 over Indiana Tech.
Fourth Set: Cornerstone – 25 Indiana Tech – 22
- A block from Joshua Beaumont and Brunno Peres helped Cornerstone open the fourth set on a 4-2 lead.
- Indiana Tech has used a 6-1 run to take a 9-7 lead over the Golden Eagles.
- It continued to be all Indiana Tech early as Cornerstone called their first timeout to regroup as they find themselves down 13-9.
- Cornerstone has slowly chipped away at Indiana Tech's lead as a kill from Brunno Peres made it 14-13.
- After taking an 18-15 lead over Cornerstone, the Golden Eagles have responded with five straight points to make it 20-18 thanks to kills from Andrew Galanes and Ernest Broaster.
- A big solo block from Hubert Sliwinski helped the Golden Eagles make it a 22-20 match.
- Ernest Broaster put the final touch of the fourth set with a kill to help the Golden Eagles win the fourth set 25-22.
