MELBOURNE, Fla. – Softball added two more victories at the Space Coast games with strong hitting leading the way. In the first contest of the day the Golden Eagles faced Calumet where they came away with a 9-8 win. The game started off quickly for Cornerstone but felt shaky at times as they weathered the storm to secure the win. In game two the ladies got the best of Huntington in a narrow 2-0 victory. The ladies will look to carry their momentum into their final double-header down south against Saint Francis and Florida National on March 8
th.
Game One Recap: Cornerstone – 9 Calumet – 8
- The 1st inning of the game the Golden Eagles played with fire but got away with multiple runners in scoring position.
- Morgan Jenkins and Moriah Sprague got the Cornerstone offense moving with their legs as they both stole bases to set up an early 1-0 lead after one inning.
- The bottom of the 2nd inning belonged to the Golden Eagles as they kicked it off with a strike from Delaney Wilson.
- Alexis Ashbay rocked one to deep right field to drive in another run for Cornerstone.
- The Golden Eagles took advantage of Calumet's errors as they found a 3-0 lead with more outs to give.
- Moriah Sprague highlighted the end of the inning with a double to drive in multiple runs and give Cornerstone a 6-0 lead after the 2nd.
- Errors and walks were the story in the 3rd inning but in favor of the Golden Eagles as they tallied two more runs to gain an 8-0 lead.
- The Golden Eagles looked to cruise past the Crimson Wave, but they had a whole other story making it 8-7 after the top of the 4th.
- Moriah Sprague continued her stellar performance with another big hit to drive in one more run for Cornerstone as they had a narrow 9-7 lead after the bottom of the 5th.
- Calumet responded well in the top of the 6th with another run to make the game a one run contest entering the final inning.
- Alyssa Braam finished out the strong pitching performance with the final out as it was lined right to her which forced an incredible grab to secure the win.
Game Two Recap: Cornerstone – 2 Huntington – 0
- The Golden Eagles bats cooled off at the start of the game against the Foresters as it was scoreless after the 1st inning.
- Both teams found their defense hold strong in the 2nd inning to keep the game moving quickly.
- Taylor Zwagerman kicked off the 3rd with a strike into center field for a double but the batters to follow could not produce as the game still searched for a score.
- Delaney Wilson and Taylor Zwagerman singled in the top of the 5th which primed the Golden Eagles to score.
- The first score of the game was secured through a Maddy Chatman single that was followed by a Morgan Jenkins strike that gave Cornerstone the 2-0 advantage.
- The Golden Eagles defense stiffened throughout the remainder of the game thanks to McKenna Gilde on her impressive pitching performance as they walked away with a 2-0 victory.
By the Numbers:
4 – Cornerstone tallied four total stolen bases in today's matchups.
15 – The Golden Eagles defense stepped up when it mattered most as both teams combined left 15 runners on base in the games.
17 – The ladies produced 17 total hits on the day.

The Golden Eagles close out their trip to Florida with a pair of matchups against Saint Francis and Florida National on Saturday, March 8
