Softball sees their season end in the Opening Round of the National Tournament

Williamsburg, Ky. – Softball went to battle for the second time at the NAIA National Tournament this time against #RV Mobile (Ala.). The Golden Eagles fought back and forth but ultimately fell in the final inning to the Rams 4-3. The ladies will live and learn from their incredible season as they return next spring for the 2026 season.Â

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 3 #RV Mobile (Ala.) – 4
- The Golden Eagles gathered the first hit of the game through Anna Griffioen which was followed by a Moriah Sprague hit by pitch.Â
- Delaney Wilson and Alexis Ashbay both singled to drive in a run each as Cornerstone took an early 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st inning.Â
- Mobile answered right away with a run of their own in the 1st, yet the Golden Eagles still held a 2-1 advantage.Â
- The Golden Eagles saw two more base runners reach in the 2nd inning but were unable to drive in a decisive run as the game remained at 2-1 after the 2nd.
- Delaney Wilson and Alexis Ashbay both collected their second singles of the game in the 3rd inning but once again it was not enough to change the score.
- The Rams put a big swing on the ball in the bottom of the 3rd that resulted in a solo homer to tie the game.Â
- Mobile punched home a game leading run in the 4th inning off a shot into center field as they turned the tide and led 3-2.Â
- Paige Liddell got the offense moving in the 6th when Cornerstone needed it most with a huge double to lead off the inning.Â
- Alayna Meade followed it up with a single that put runners on the corners as Cornerstone was poised to punch a run home.Â
- The Golden Eagles saw Maddy Chatman secure the tying run at home plate with a wild pitch which set up Cornerstone to give it a shot at taking the game in the 7th inning.Â
- McKenna Gilde found her 5th strikeout of the day in the bottom of the 6th inning as she led Cornerstone well.Â
- Three cracks of the ball in the top of the 7th resulted in two ground outs and a pop up which meant Cornerstone needed to defend well to send it to extras.Â
- The Golden Eagles could not piece it together as their hopes fell apart in the final inning as the Rams walked it off to take the game 4-3.Â
By the Numbers:
8 – Cornerstone saw another game of solid hits lead to a loss as they outhit the Rams 8 to 4.Â
9 – The Golden Eagles left 9 runners on base in today's game.
11 – Cornerstone's 35-16 record makes it their best record in 11 years.Â
What's Next?
The Golden Eagles season comes to a close as they will return in the spring of 2026.
