Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's Soccer opened up WHAC Conference play today hosting Cleary University. The ladies took care of business through
Audrey Johnson who scored the lone goal of the match to secure the 1-0 victory. Cornerstone allowed zero shots from the Cougars on the day in this controlled win. The Golden Eagles travel to Aquinas on Wednesday, September 24 for a hometown rival match at 7:00 p.m.
Game Recap: Cornerstone – 1 Cleary – 0
First Half:
- The first half started quickly for the Golden Eagles as they asked questions of the Cleary backline early.
- Joslyn McGlassion and Gracie Gortmaker found shots in the first 15 minutes of the match with both forcing a save yet Cornerstone was still at a deadlock.
- The Golden Eagles continued to push forward with multiple threatening corner kicks but were unable to breakthrough.
- Audrey Johnson slotted away the first goal of the match in the 43rd minute off a smooth cross from Ellie Schenkelberger as Cornerstone finally found the lead just before half.
Second Half:
- The second half was another strong start for Cornerstone as they capitalized on an early yellow card from Cleary.
- Cornerstone controlled possession well throughout the half as they pushed to find a second goal and put the game away.
- Cleary was sentenced a red card in the 71st minute of the match thanks to aggressive play which allowed the Golden Eagles a one-man advantage until the final whistle.
