Woman’s Soccer Fights Well Offensively but Falls to Indiana Tech

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Women's soccer (2-5-1) headed down to Fort Wayne, Ind. to take on the Warriors of Indiana Tech in their third conference match of the season. The Warriors looked to strike first in the 58th minute of play to grab the lead 1-0 off of a penalty shot. The Golden Eagles had many opportunities in both halves to get on the board, but were unsuccessful. The Warriors would keep the score 1-0 and in the end take the win. The Golden Eagles' season will continue with a home game against Rochester Christian University on October 1st at 7 p.m. inside of the Cornerstone Soccer Stadium.

Game Recap: Cornerstone – 0 Indiana Tech – 1

First Half:

  • Cornerstone had the first shot of the game in the 11th minute of play, off of an attempt from Madeline Billings that was saved.

  • The Golden Eagles kept the offensive pressure going in the first half with a pair of shots from Jada VanNoord and Gracie Gortmaker that were both off the mark.

  • Cornerstone outshot the Warriors in the first half of play with 3 total shots, one of them on goal.

Second Half:

  • Indiana Tech recorded their first shot of the game in the 47th minute of the game.

  • Two shots off the foot of Audrey Johnson for Cornerstone failed to find the back of the net, one saved and the other went wide.

  • The Warriors get on the scoresheet first with a well-taken penalty shot in the 58th minute of play. Indiana Tech took the lead 1-0.

  • The 66th minute saw a shot from Kaitlynn Sal force another save out of the Warriors' goalkeeper. The score would end 1-0, with the Warriors holding off the Golden Eagles for the rest of the night.

2/1 – Gracie Gortmaker had two shots, one of which was on goal for Cornerstone University.

4/2 – Substitute Audrey Johnson totaled four shots with two of them on goal for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles' season will continue with a home game against Rochester Christian University on October 1st at 7 p.m. inside of the Cornerstone Soccer Stadium.
