Cornerstone University Athletics

Gruppen comes to Cornerstone after spending the last 13 years as a coach with Grandville Calvin Christian High School, the last nine as the varsity head coach. In those nine years as head coach, Calvin Christian earned eight conference titles, six district titles, and four regional titles, as well as a state runner-up finish in 2016. Gruppen was named the Regional Coach of the Year three times over his nine years as a head coach. He also was the 2016 Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association (MHSSCA) Division III All-Star Game Coach and has served on the MHSSCA Division III All-State Selection Committee the last three years. 
 
Gruppen grew up locally as a Holland Christian graduate before pursuing his college degree at Michigan State. He has three brothers and two sisters, two of his brothers who currently coach high school athletics at West Michigan area high schools. 
 
A fun fact about Gruppen is he was Head Coach Kelsey Kooistra's High School Softball Coach. Other hobbies include: hunting, golf, playing softball, serving as a Deacon at his church, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
