Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – In an important week with postseason implications on the line, the men's soccer team was unable to overcome a fast start by the host Lawrence Tech Blue Devils as they fell 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 3-9-1 on the season and 1-4-1 in league action. CU will return to play on Saturday when they complete the final of a 4-match road swing at UM-Dearborn.
Lawrence Tech struck in just the 9' and followed with a second goal in the 30' and it was more than enough to hand Cornerstone their fourth straight defeat. LTU finished the day with a slight edge in shots on goal (6-4) but it was the first two in the opening 45 that gave the home team the win.
Cornerstone did muster a few great chances in each half but a first half shot by Mark Rougas (JR/Wheaton, Ill.) just missed and then a set piece off a corner in the second was just wide.
Tristan Esprit (SR/Toronto, Ontario) led the way with two shots for head coach Mark Bell while Nick Hopkins (SO/Ada, Mich.) allowed the two goals to fall to 3-9-1 in net for CU.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Dearborn to face UM-Dearborn at 2:30 p.m.
