Volleyball posts perfect day at WHAC Crossover

LIMA, Ohio  – Cornerstone played their first of three crossovers in league play on Saturday and they came away with a perfect 2-0 mark as they defeated Marygrove College and Lawrence Tech. The two victories lift head coach Ryan Campbell and his team to 18-8 on the season and 9-6 in league play. CU will have five home matches next week beginning Wednesday against Siena Heights at 7 p.m.



The opening match of the day saw the Golden Eagles take care of Marygrove in convincing fashion. Behind a .282 team hitting percentage and a combined 24 kills from Cailie Schultz and Chelsea Lake, CU won going away 25-13, 25-10, 25-12. 

Megan Newhouse was strong as well as the junior posted nine kills while hitting at a .500 clip to go along with a match high 25 digs. Hope Leppink finished with 36 assists in the win.

In the second match, Cornerstone broke a 2-2 tie with Lawrence Tech and took the final set 15-9 to win 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9). Leading the Golden Eagles on offense was Chelsea Lake with 23 kills while Hope Leppink finished with 40 assists. Three players, Megan Newhouse, Lake and Leppink were tops with 12 digs each.

The Golden Eagles will continue WHAC play next week when they play host to Siena Heights on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CU will then stay at home over the weekend as they host the AQ/CU Crossover at Mol Arena.
