Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their final non-conference match of the season, head coach Mark Bell and the men's soccer team posted a 4-0 win over visiting Cleary University. CU got a pair of goals in each half to post the most goals in a single match this season as they improve to 5-11-1. Cornerstone will conclude the regular season on Saturday when they will celebrate senior day against Indiana Tech at 7pm.
In their final tune-up before the regular season finale on Saturday, the men's soccer team saw their offense come alive in a shutout win over visiting Cleary University.
CU struck in the 23' as senior Tristan Esprit (SR/Toronto, Ontario) scored on a free kick from just outside the 18 into the upper left of the net. Cornerstone added to the lead just 21 seconds before halftime when Chris Buitenhuis (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) scored on an un-assisted play and the Golden Eagles went into the break leading 2-0.
After a slow start to the second half, CU really gained control of the match with a Caleb Colp (FR/Stevensville, Mich.) goal at 71:44 and finished it off with an 89' tally from Blake Groll (JR/Kentwood, Mich.). Josh Piovesan (FR/Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.) assisted on the first with Casey Zimmerman (FR/St. Charles, Ill.) getting credit for the helper on the second.
The win lifts the Golden Eagles to 5-11-1 on the season as they will conclude the regular season on Saturday at home at 7 p.m. against Indiana Tech.
