Box Score LIVONIA, Mich. – The men's soccer team scored the first goal early in the second half but the host Crusaders of Madonna University tied it up shortly after and then got a late goal which was the difference in a 2-1 setback for the Golden Eagles. The loss drops Cornerstone to 3-7-1 on the year and 1-2-1 in league play. They will play their second straight road match on Saturday when they travel to Lima, Ohio to face No. 19 Northwestern Ohio.
Coming off a tough 3-1 loss at home to Concordia this past Saturday, head coach Mark Bell and his team were looking for a fast start on the road against Madonna (8-3 overall, 3-1 WHAC) and after a scoreless first half, CU broke through on a goal from Mario Williams. The junior put one in after a cross from Tristan Esprit ricocheted off the MU keeper to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0.
That score only held for about 15 minutes when the Crusaders tied it up and then the home team took the lead for good in the 87'.
Nick Hopkins made three saves in net for CU.
Cornerstone (3-7-1, 1-2-1 WHAC) will remain on the road for their next three matches and they travel to UNOH on Saturday for a 3 p.m. start against the Racers.
