Steigenga posts perfect day in 125-83 win over Kuyper

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In just his second career collegiate appearance, freshman Kyle Steigenga (FR/Holland, Mich.) posted 32 points and 10 rebounds to help the No. 11 ranked Golden Eagles post a 125-83 win over visiting Kuyper College. Steigenga not only went perfect from the field (14-14), but also the free-throw line (4-4) to finish perfect on the day. Cornerstone will return to action next weekend when they face No. 8 Robert Morris (Ill.) at Aquinas College at 6 p.m.



Game Flow
For the second straight contest, the Cornerstone Golden Eagles got off to a slow start as they witnessed the Cougars race out to a 15-8 lead by knocking down six of their first eight shots from the field. CU however responded and took their first lead at 18-17 on a layup from Joey Blauwkamp (SO/Grandville, Mich.) and other than just one bucket seconds later, held the lead for the remainder of the day.

Cornerstone built their lead to 13 at half and increased it to 22 just 4:49 into the second half and to as many as 30 with 3:52 to play on a free-throw from Ty Smith (SO/Zeeland, Mich.).

"It was positive to see our guys dominate on the glass (59-26 including 20 offensive boards). As always it is early in the season and we have to make some adjustments in which we will come back on Monday ready to get better and take more steps in the right direction" – Assistant Coach Ted Albert

11 and 10 - Ben Lanning (JR/Grandville, Mich.) (11) and Kyle Steigenga (10) each finished with double-digit rebounds 

9/7/7 - Joey Blauwkamp played the best all-around game of his young career with nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists

9 - Michael McLaughlin (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with a game and career high nine assists (his previous career high was 5 vs. Grace Bible – 11/5/13)  

55.7 – Field-goal percentage for the Golden Eagles (49-88)

Cornerstone will take part in the WHAC-Crossroads League Challenge next weekend at Aquinas College – Due to Spring Arbor dropping out, the Golden Eagles will play Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday at Noon.
