GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior Ben Lanning (JR/Grandville, Mich.) and freshman Kyle Steigenga (FR/Holland, Mich.) combined for 40 points and 20 rebounds as the big men led the No. 11 ranked Golden Eagles to a 75-67 win over Lourdes University on Wednesday evening. The win is the second in a row for CU as they improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will begin a 2-game WHAC road trip on Saturday when they face Northwestern Ohio at 3 p.m. in Lima.

Game Flow
In a game that saw neither team have a lead of greater than six points until the final two points of the game, Cornerstone and Lourdes played a physical contest that featured 33 fouls and 25 combined turnovers. Each team had their share of the lead in the opening half with CU holding their largest of five on three different occasions and LU posting a 4-point margin at 26-22.

After the 4-point lead for the Gray Wolves, CU finished the half on a 12-4 run to lead 34-30. Lourdes then opened the second half by scoring 10 of the first 16 points to tie it up but they could never get over the hump and CU re-took the lead on the next possession on a 3-pointer by Cory Cox (SO/Flushing, Mich.). LU was able to only tie it up twice more at 48-48 and 50-50 but CU scored 25 of the last 42 points for the 75-67 win.

Say What?
"I'm proud of our players for their effort and toughness tonight.  Ben and Kyle really stepped up big for us inside against a very physical Lourdes team.  We challenged both of them to get more rebounds and they did.  All in all, it was a great team effort and we need to build on this and continue to get better." – Head coach Kim Elders
