GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cornerstone led 39-35 at the break, but a poor second half that saw the Golden Eagles only connect on two field goals in the opening 10 minutes sent them to a 77-64 defeat against Hope College. The loss drops CU to 6-3 on the season as they try to rebound on Saturday against Calvin College at 6 p.m. The Hall of Fame Classic is being hosted at Aquinas College.
Game Flow
In a very physical contest that featured a combined 44 fouls, Cornerstone held their own in the opening twenty minutes and went to the locker room with a 39-35 lead. Despite multiple players battling foul trouble, the Golden Eagles used a 52% shooting performance to lead by four.
That lead quickly went away on the first two possessions of the second half and Hope used a 17-5 run over the first 8:25 to up their lead to double-digits. Cornerstone battled back however to get the lead down to just six on a Cory Cox (SO/Flushing, Mich.) three-pointer with 5:30 remaining but that would be as close as they would get with the Flying Dutchmen posting the 13-point win thanks to some late free-throws.
