Golden Eagles defeat Cougars 2-1 in OT

Box Score

The Golden Eagles returned home to face St. Xavier (Ill.) tonight.  Cornerstone got on the board early when Chris Buitenhuis scored his first goal of his career in the 6th minute of play.  Tristan Esprit served a corner kick and Buitenhuis finished it in the lower right side of the goal.  The Cougars tied the score on a bicycle kick in the 15th minute of play.  The game remained tied through the remainder of regulation so the teams went into OT.  Shots were 6-6 after 90 minutes.  Cornerstone garners 3 shots to St. Xavier's 1 shot in the 1st OT and then won it 2 minutes into the 2nd OT when Caleb Colp scored his first goal of his career on a Garrett Nimmo assist.  The Golden Eagles have been on the wrong side of 3 OT games so far this season so it was nice to finally break the ice for their first win of the season.  The Golden Eagles outshot the Cougars 10-7 and had a 9-2 advantage in Corner Kicks.  Cornerstone improves to 1-5-0 on the season.  The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they play at Goshen with a 7:00 pm kickoff.
