Box Score (Grand Rapids, Mich.) The Golden Eagles started well today against the Panthers. The two teams battled back and forth over the first part of the game and were tied at 9-9. Cornerstone made a 3-0 run with kills by Heather Green, Tori Mielke, and Cailie Schultz. The Golden Eagles would lead until the Panthers tied it at 17-17. Cornerstone would take the lead again only to be tied at 21-21. 22-22, and 23-23 before Davenport made a couple of errors in the last two points and Cornerstone won 25-23.
Davenport came out right of the first point and built a big lead early in the second set and they went on to win 25-14. The third set was much the same as the second set with Davenport winning 25-10.
Cornerstone would take and early lead in the fourth set and would go up as many as 6 points (13-7) but then the Panthers rallied to tie the score at 15-15. Davenport then took over and increased their lead to 20-16 over the next six points. Cornerstone would get to within 2 points 24-22 but the Panthers would finish off the last point with a kill to win the game and match for Davenport.
Cornerstone drops to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will return to action this Friday and Saturday when the host Indiana Tech on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Lourdes on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
