The Cornerstone men's tennis team took to the courts today in its first Night of Nets match to fight malaria. The biggest crowd Cornerstone tennis has ever seen turned out to help raise money and support the team. Through the generaous donations of the crowd, enough money was raised to provide over 100 mosquito nets to those most in need. This represents 100 lives that may be saved, and possibibly an entire community that could be transformed.
On the court, the Golden Eagles made quick work of the Bethel College Pilots, winning 9-0 in decisive fashion. In doubles play, the #1 Doubles team of Elijah Yi & Austin Hunt got on the board first with an 8-1 win. Santiago Mackrey & Andrew Son finished shortly thereafter with an 8-2 win at #3, and Sam Ottosen & Austin Hendrick finished off the doubles play with an 8-4 win. In singles, Elijah Yi & Santiago Mackrey each won 6-0, 6-0, Austin Hunt & Andrew Son each won 6-1, 6-0, and Sam Ottosen & Austin Hendrick each won 6-1, 6-1 to finish off the match.
With the win, the men's tennis teams moves to 5-0 on the season. This represents the first 5 match winning streak in CU Tennis history, with the previous long of 4 coming in the fall of 2013.
Cornerstone returns to the courts on Saturday morning at MVP Sportsplex to take on the Taylor Trojans.
