Big first half leads to 70-57 win for No. 12 Men’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing their first game in two weeks had no effect on the No. 12 ranked Golden Eagles as they raced out to a 21-point halftime lead in route to a 70-57 win over Lawrence Tech. The victory, which is the third straight overall for CU, lifts them to 12-4 on the season and 6-2 in league play. Cornerstone will resume play at home on Wednesday when they take on Indiana Tech at 7:30 p.m.

Game Flow
In a tail of two halves, the Golden Eagles used a sizzling first half from the field (60.0%) to open up a 21-point lead. Cornerstone put up 45 points in the opening twenty minutes which is only 24 below the season average that Lawrence Tech allows in a game (69).

For as good as the first half was for CU, the second half was that for the visiting Blue Devils who slowly chipped away at the lead and got the margin down to single digits with under five minutes to play. Cornerstone, behind the play of freshman Kyle Steigenga (FR/Holland, Mich.) (26 points and 10 rebounds), held off a late rally as CU posted the 13-point win.
