LIVONIA, Mich. – Cornerstone traveled to No. 22 Madonna looking for their first win of the year over a top-25 team but the host Crusaders took advantage of several CU miscues to down the Golden Eagles 3-0. The loss drops CU to 16-7 on the year and 9-4 in league play as they will head to Lawrence Tech on Saturday to play the host Blue Devils as well as Marygrove College.
How it Happened…
Cornerstone struggled all night to get their offense going as they fell in straight sets in Livonia to the host Crusaders. Trailing 13-11 in the first set, CU then saw Madonna reel off 14 of the final 17 points to claim a 25-14 win. Then in the second, MU used another big run to take a 2-0 lead with the 25-17 victory.
Needing a win in the third to continue the match, Cornerstone jumped out to a big lead and eventually led 20-17 before the Crusaders again rallied to post the 25-23 win.
Looking at Stats…
- Cornerstone hit just .027 in the match as they had 26 kills and 23 errors
- Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) led the CU offense with 11 kills
- Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) finished with 21 assists
- The Golden Eagles had 10.0 team blocks
