GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles got two strong offensive matches from Johanna Egerer (SR/Plymouth, Wisc.) and Michaela Van Koevering (SO/Jenison, Mich.) on Friday night as they defeated UM-Dearborn and Great Lakes Christian to improve to 14-6 on the season. The Golden Eagles will remain at home on Saturday as they wrap up the first half of the league season against Concordia at 1 p.m.



Match 1 - Cornerstone 3, UM-Dearborn 0 – 25-12, 25-17, 25-10

The opening match of the day saw the Golden Eagles win their second straight conference match with a sweep of the visiting Wolverines. CU struggled very little throughout and had a .609 hitting percentage in the opening 25-12 win.

The Golden Eagles got 11 kills with zero errors from senior Johanna Egerer in the 3-set win while other stat leaders included Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) with 38 assists and Megan Newhouse (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) with 12 digs. CU had 18 block assists and one solo block for 10.0 total in the match


Match 2 – Cornerstone 3, Great Lakes Christian 0 – 25-8, 25-6, 25-16

In a match that was scheduled for 4 p.m. that was moved to after the conference tilt between CU and UMD, the Golden Eagles had little trouble as they cruised to their second three-set win of the night.

Cornerstone hit .318 as a team and was led in kills by Michaela Van Koevering with a career high 12. Also chipping in were Kendra Zwart (FR/Jenison, Mich.) with nine and Johanna Egerer and Ellie Van Laar (SO/Hudsonville, Mich.) with eight each.

Cornerstone accumulated 17 service aces in the match.

-    Johanna Egerer had 0 errors in the opening sweep of the Wolverines
-    Cornerstone finishes the WHAC first half of play on Saturday
-    Abby Carlson (SO/Rockford, Mich.) had 33 assists in the win over Great Lakes Christian

Cornerstone will finish the first half of the WHAC slate on Saturday when they host Concordia at 1 p.m.
