ADRIAN, Mich. – With a 5-match week on tap for the volleyball team, the Golden Eagles got it off to a slow start as they fell in straight sets at Siena Heights on Wednesday night. The setback drops Cornerstone to 18-8 on the year and 11-5 in league play. The Golden Eagles will host the Aquinas-Cornerstone crossover on Friday and Saturday at Mol Arena.
How it Happened…
Cornerstone got off to a slow start on Wednesday night and it never really improved from there as they fell in straight sets to the host Saints of Siena Heights. The setback comes after CU posted a similar 3-set win over SHU in the team's first meeting in mid-September.
Cornerstone trailed 13-14 in the opening set but Siena Heights ran off five of the next six points to take control and went on to win 25-20. The remaining two sets were fully controlled by the Saints as they avenged the earlier season loss to CU.
Looking at Stats…
- Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) had a team-best 12 kills as she was one of only three players to hit for a positive percentage
- Megan Newhouse (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) led the team with 17 digs while Amber Carmean (SR/Fruitport, Mich.) had 14
- Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) finished with 27 assists
