Hitting errors prove costly in 5-set loss to Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With two weeks to play in the regular season, the Cornerstone volleyball team got it off to rocky start as they fell in five sets to Davenport on Wednesday night. 31 hitting errors were too much to overcome as the Golden Eagles fall to 22-9 on the season and 11-6 in the league. CU will head to UNOH on Saturday for the second of three WHAC crossovers in which they play No. 18 Lourdes and UM-Dearborn.

How it Happened…
After posting a 3-1 win on the Panthers' home floor earlier this season, Cornerstone entered the night tied with Indiana Tech for third place and looking for a season sweep of their rival. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a 25-21 win in which they rallied from down late.

Davenport then took the next set 25-19 but Cornerstone walked away with the third by a convincing 25-16 score. With the win in site, Cornerstone held late leads in the fourth set only to see the Panthers fight back to win 27-25 and the momentum carried them to a big lead in the fifth in which they never looked back, winning 15-11.

Cornerstone will head to Northwestern Ohio for the second of three WHAC Crossovers. The Golden Eagles will open the day against undefeated and No. 18 ranked Lourdes at Noon and follow it with a 2:30 match vs. UM-Dearborn.
