FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Cornerstone got two goals in the closing half and a Mbeki Johnson (SO/Toronto, Ontario) double-overtime tally to rally from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Indiana Tech on Saturday night. The victory lifts the Golden Eagles to 8-9-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the WHAC. CU finishes the regular season in fifth in the league standings and will play at the fourth seed Aquinas Saints next Saturday in the WHAC quarterfinals.
Game Flow…
For the second straight year, Cornerstone and Indiana Tech met in the regular season finale and for the second straight year, it took extra time to determine a winner. The Warriors struck first with just under a minute to play in the opening half and that score held up until the 58' when Mbeki Johnson scored the first of his two goals on the night.
The Golden Eagles actually took the lead for a few minutes when Diego Bobadilla (SR/Holland, Mich.) scored an unassisted goal in the 61' but the lead was short-lived as the Warriors tied it up less than five minutes later.
Overtime saw neither team score and then just 2:30 into the second extra frame, Johnson took a pass from Mark Rougas (SR/Geneva, Ill.) and put it by the Tech keeper for the game winner.
