SYLANIA, Ohio – Ben Lanning (SR/Grandville, Mich.) posted a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the No. 1 ranked Golden Eagles to a 63-54 road win at Lourdes the two teams' WHAC opener. The victory is the fourth in a row for CU as they are 4-1 overall. Cornerstone will play their first home game of the season on Saturday, November 21 at 3 p.m. against Madonna.
Game Flow
Cornerstone's defense was the story early on as they did not allow a Gray Wolves' point until 5:31 into the contest and allowed just four in the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately the shots were not falling on the offensive end and CU was able to only build an 11-point halftime edge 31-20 after a last second three-ball by Lourdes.
The Gray Wolves kept the momentum going into the second and with just over 13 minutes to play trailed by only four, 36-32. CU then used a 10-1 run highlighted by points from five different players to open a 13-point edge and they never looked back. Lourdes was able to connect on a pair of last minute three-pointers to bring the final margin under 10.
