SYLVANIA, Ohio – Cornerstone raced out to a 1-0 lead on No. 23 Madonna but the Crusaders responded with three straight set wins to close out the Golden Eagles 18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 in the WHAC Semifinals. The loss concludes the 2015 campaign with an overall record of 27-11.

How it Happened…
Cornerstone took command of the match with a strong defensive performance in the opening set as they posted 4.0 team blocks as Johanna Egerer (SR/Plymouth, Wisc.) had three and Megan Newhouse (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) two to take a 1-0 lead with the 25-18 win.

Sets two and three were tightly contested with Cornerstone holding a lead for most of the second but after seeing the score tied at 20-20, Madonna rallied to win five of the final seven points.

The Crusaders jumped out to a big lead in the third set only to see CU crawl back behind the play of Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) and Johanna Egerer as they combined for nine kills. Cornerstone had the lead down to 23-21 but a hitting error and a kill from MU ended the comeback hopes.

Madonna then continued to play outstanding defense in the back row as they would finish with five different players in double-figure digs to close out CU 25-16 in the fourth.
