Box Score

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Cornerstone outscored Lawrence Tech 52-16 in the paint on Tuesday night as the Golden Eagles picked up their sixth straight win with an 86-49 victory over the Blue Devils. The win lifts CU to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in WHAC play as they now turn their attention to the annual Hall of Fame Classic in which the Golden Eagles will host Calvin on Friday at 8 p.m. and Hope on Saturday also at 8 p.m.

Game Flow
Kyle Steigenga (SO/Holland, Mich.) got the scoring started on the opening possession for CU and it would be a sign of things to come as the Golden Eagles controlled the paint against the host Blue Devils. Cornerstone slowly pulled away in the opening 20 minutes and after five straight points from Michael McLaughlin (JR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) (layup) and a triple from Cory Cox (JR/Flushing, Mich.), CU held a 26-13 lead and went into the break up 42-26.

Lawrence Tech cut into the lead and had it down to just 13 around the 13 minute mark of the second half but after a Cornerstone timeout, Travis Wells (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) hit a pair of shots from long range and McLaughlin continued his solid play to help push the lead back over 20. Eric Readman (JR/Fenton, Mich.) played his best offensive game of the season, finishing with 11 points off the bench for CU.

Say What?
"This is a good win before we head into a difficult stretch. The Hall of Fame Classic brings out the best in us, Calvin, Hope and Aquinas and then we play Aquinas right after. Our defense continues to improve" – Head Coach Kim Elders

By the Numbers
20 – Kyle Steigenga led CU in points for the second straight game – and is now over 900 for his career
11 – Junior Eric Readman had almost triple the number of points tonight that he had all season
56 – Points in the paint for the Golden Eagles
8 – Team high rebounds for Ben Lanning (SR/Grandville, Mich.) despite playing through foul trouble

Up Next
Cornerstone will be back at Mol Arena for their next three games and they all will come against Grand Rapids-area schools. CU starts it with the annual Hall of Fame Classic in which they host Calvin College on Friday and Hope College on Saturday. Both games will tip at 8 p.m. and can be seen on the Golden Eagle Sports Network.
