Steigenga scores 1000th point in win over Northwestern Ohio

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kyle Steigenga (SO/Holland, Mich.) and Cory Cox (JR/Flushing, Mich.) scored 50 of Cornerstone's 68 points to lead the Golden Eagles to a 68-55 win over Northwestern Ohio to improve to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the WHAC.  Steigenga scored his 1000th point of his career early in the half.  Kyle becomes the second Golden Eagle (Ben Lanning on Nov. 6th) to reach that milestone this year and 39th player to do it in the history of the program . 



 

Game Flow

The Racers jumped out to an early lead with a 10-2 start over the first 3:51 of the half.  Northwestern Ohio ran their lead to 11 points (22-11) with 8:47 left in the half before Cornerstone started to cut into their lead.  The Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead over the next  5 minutes and tied the game at 24-24 with 3:31 and ended the half all tied up at 29.  Cory Cox led the Golden Eagles with 13 points.  Kyle Steigenga scored 10 points which included his 1000th point at Cornerstone with a made foul shot just 3:10 into the half.

The Golden Eagles made a 14-4 run to open the second half and took a 43-33 lead with 14:56 on the clock.  The Racers would cut the lead to 54-50 with 5:39 left in the half but the Golden Eagles would respond another 14-4 run to seal the victory.

Up Next

Cornerstone will head be off for the next 10 days during exam week and will return to WHAC play on Dec. 22nd when they travel down to Adrian to take on Siena Heights at 6:00 p.m.
