GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The tough stretch for the Cornerstone men's tennis team continued on Wednesday night as they fell 6-3 to rival Aquinas in a match played at Davenport's Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 1-3 in conference play and 16-5 overall. CU will head to Grace College (Ind.) and Northwestern Ohio over the weekend.
Doubles Highlights: In a reversal of their recent struggles in doubles, the Golden Eagles grabbed a 2-1 lead thanks to wins from No. 2 – Austin Hendrick (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Sam Ottosen (FR/Cairns, AUS) (8-5) and No. 3 – Santiago Mackrey (SO/Balcarce, ARG) and Andrew Son (JR/Keller, Texas.) (8-4). CU did fall at the top 8-3.
Singles Highlights: Aquinas then came back strong in the singles portion as they took five of the six matches with all of them being decided in straight sets. CU's lone win in singles came on the fourth court as freshman Santiago Mackrey defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-2.
What's Next? The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday at Grace College (Ind.).
