GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In a match that begins a busy two week stretch for the Golden Eagles, it was the cross-town foe Panthers of Davenport that came out on top as they won 8-1 at MVP Sportsplex on Wednesday night. DU won all three doubles matches to take firm control to send CU to just their third loss of the season. Cornerstone will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Indiana Tech at NorthPointe Christian HS.
Doubles Highlights: Davenport jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles while the other two matches were tightly contested. CU had a 4-0 lead on the second court behind the play of Sam Ottosen (FR/Cairns, AUS) and Austin Hendrick (FR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) but the Panthers roared back to take the match 8-6. The third court was a close one as well until DU won 8-4 over Andrew Son (JR/Keller, Texas.) and Santiago Mackrey (SO/Balcarce, ARG).
Singles Highlights: With a big deficit in front of them, Cornerstone was not able to make up the difference in singles as they got their lone win of the night from Austin Hendrick. The freshman defeated Matheus Cavalho 6-1. 6-2 at No. 5 singles. CU never really threatened in the others as the Panthers won all five of their singles matches in straight sets.
What's Next? The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday at NorthPointe Christian when they play host to Indiana Tech in a WHAC matchup. The doubles portion is set to begin at 1 p.m.
