MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – After splitting their first two matches of the season on Thursday evening, the Golden Eagles returned to Saint Thomas University for the final day of the Athletes' Meals Invitational and posted another 1-1 record. CU opened the day with a 3-1 win over Olivet Nazarene before falling by the same score against MidAmerica Nazarene. The team will return to action next Friday in their WHAC opener at Aquinas College.

Match 1 - #RV Cornerstone 3, Olivet Nazarene (25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-12)

After posting their first win last night with a solid performance against Saint Thomas, the Golden Eagles rolled to their second straight win with the 3-1 triumph over Olivet Nazarene. CU controlled the first two sets before seeing the Tigers come back and force a fourth set but it was all CU with a 25-12 win to close out the win.

Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) was nearly unstoppable on offense for head coach Ryan Campbell as the senior posted 20 kills and hit at a .306 clip. Sophomore Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) finished with 40 assists while Megan Newhouse (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) (15) led a trio of Golden Eagles in double-digit digs.

Match 2 - #RV MidAmerica Nazarene 3, #RV Cornerstone 1 (25-19, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22)

In a battle for second place in the tourney, it was the Pioneers behind a stellar 1-2 punch of Gisele Silva (14 kills) and Sofija Berezovska (18 kills) to down the Golden Eagles in four sets. Cornerstone tried to force a fifth set but after leading 19-17 late in the fourth, saw the Pioneers finish the set strong to post the win.

Chelsea Lake once again led CU in kills with 15 and she was joined in double-digit terminations by fellow senior Megan Newhouse (13). Amber Carmean (SR/Fruitport, Mich.) led Cornerstone with 22 digs while Lake (12 digs) posted her second straight double-double.
