MEDFORD, Mass. – The men's soccer team completed their week long stay outside of Boston with a commanding 7-0 win against Fisher College (Mass.) on Monday afternoon. The victory lifts the Golden Eagles to 2-1-0 on the season as they return to action on Saturday in Chicago when they take on Saint Xavier University (Ill.) at 2 p.m. EST.
Game Flow
The first meeting ever between Cornerstone and Fisher quickly became lop-sided as the Golden Eagles put up six of their seven tallies in the opening 45 minutes. CU got goals at the 5:44 mark from David Mutembezi and just 51 seconds later from Gareth Flynn (JR/Elk Grove, Ill.) to take the 2-0 lead.
Mark Rougas (SR/Wheaton, Ill.) then scored the first of his two goals on the day at the 16:26 mark and CU got three more in the opening half from Caleb Colp, Rougas and Kevin Nimmo (SO/Livonia, Mich.). Gareth Flynn scored the lone goal in the second half just 5:36 in to finish the scoring.
Nick Hopkins (JR/Ada, Mich.) got the win in net for Cornerstone as the junior made three saves in the 68:15 of game action while Thomas Bowes (SO/Grand Rapids, MIch.) finished out the shutout for the Golden Eagles.
