GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing their second conference match in less than 24 hours had no effect on the Golden Eagles as they rolled to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Marygrove on Saturday afternoon. The victory lifts the Golden Eagles to 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play as they will resume conference action on Wednesday when they host Siena Heights at 7 p.m.
How it Happened…
The first set was the only relatively close set amongst the three for the match as Marygrove kept the lead within 4-5 points until Cornerstone got their legs under them to pull away for the 9-point win. Sets two and three were dominated by the home team as Amber Carmean (SR/Fruitport, Mich.) opened the third on a 10-0 run.
Cornerstone finished with 11 aces in the match and hit a season high .403 while holding the Mustangs to a -.043 hitting percentage.
Looking at Stats…
- No CU player reached double-figure kills but six different players finished with at least four
- Heather Green (SO/Anchorage, Alaska) had eight kills with 0 errors on just 10 attempts for a .800 hitting percentage
- Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) had 233 assists and four digs
- Megan Newhouse (SR/Grand Haven, Mich.) and Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) led the team with 11 digs each
