BOURBANNAIS, Ill. – Looking to make a statement on day two of the Holiday Inn Express tournament hosted by Olivet Nazarene, the CU volleyball team posted a 1-1 day with a sweep of #RV Bellevue and a 3-1 setback to No. 12 Columbia. The split leaves the Golden Eagles at 10-4 on the season as they return to conference action next Wednesday at crosstown rival Davenport.

Match 1 - #RV Cornerstone 3, #RV Bellevue (Neb.) – 25-22, 25-20, 25-19

It was a tightly contested battle between two teams receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top-25 poll and each set came down to the final 8-10 points. In set one, Cornerstone took an 19-19 scored and rattled off six of the final nine points for the 25-22 win. The set was finished off with a block from Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) and Johanna Egerer (SR/Plymouth, Wisc.).

Set two finished very similar with CU outscoring the Bruins 8-3 after it was tied 17-17 as a block by Heather Green (SO/Anchorage, Alaska) and Ellie Van Laar (SO/Hudsonville, Mich.) clinched the 25-20 win. After CU started the third up 11-4, Bellevue fought back to make it interesting but the Golden Eagles were too tough down the stretch.

Match 2 – #12 Columbia 3, #RV Cornerstone 1 – 18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-16

In a battle of undefeated teams in the tournament, Cornerstone jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a .448 hitting percentage in the opener. The two teams traded points for most of the second until a big run from the Cougars created separation and Columbia evened the match with a 25-15 win.

The Cougar offense continued to click in the third and fourth sets as the Golden Eagles struggled to get things back to the way they had it in the opener and Columbia finished with the 3-1 win.

Notes…
-    Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) was named to the All-Tournament Team
-    Cornerstone is now 2-2 against teams receiving votes this season
-    It marks the fourth straight year Cornerstone has gone 3-1 at the Olivet Nazarene tourney
