GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Chelsea Lake (SR/Lake Odessa, Mich.) finished with a match high 16 kills and 25 digs to lead Cornerstone to a 3-1 road victory on Wednesday over crosstown rival Davenport. The Golden Eagles have posted road wins at Aquinas and now at DU as they improve to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in league play. CU will head to Indiana Tech on Friday before playing at Lourdes on Saturday.

How it Happened…
Sets one and two were exact opposites of each other as the Golden Eagles came out firing to take a 25-17 win only to see the host Panthers roar back in the second to even the match with a 25-15 win. CU hit .237 in the opening win but struggled to a -.024 in the second set loss.

The swing set came in the third and after a long break in between, Cornerstone returned to their first set ways as they posted 16 kills while limiting the Panthers to a .034 hitting percentage. Then with their first victory over Davenport since 2011 in sight, CU held off a late Davenport rally to win 25-20 in the fourth.

Quotable…
"The win feels great and we had a lot of confidence going into the match bases on other results against common opponents. It was just a matter of keeping the high intensity the whole time tonight which faltered in the second set but it was good to see us come back after that loss and give it back to them. Our experience and having seniors on the floor was huge and we are looking forward to some tough matches this weekend." – Senior Chelsea Lake

Looking at Stats…
-    Chelsea Lake finished the night with 16 kills and 25 digs
-    No other Golden Eagle finished in double-digit kills but three different players had nine terminations
-    Lake also posted a match high three aces as the team had nine compared to DU's one
-    Hope Leppink (SO/Holland, Mich.) finished with 47 assists which is a season high

Up Next?
Cornerstone will stay on the road for both matches this weekend as they are at Indiana Tech on Friday and at Lourdes on Saturday in league contests.
