Pipe and Nimmo head Men’s Soccer past Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles played rival Aquinas in their annual "Night of Nets" game and they didn't disappoint the large crowd by scoring two first half goals to defeat the Saints 2-0 in their first WHAC game of the season. The win lifts Cornerstone to 3-5-0 overall as they will return to the pitch on September 30 at Siena Heights.

Game Flow…
Cornerstone started off the game well and created a couple of great chances early in the game as James Pipe (SO/Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Caleb Colp (SO/Stevensville, Mich.) put some pressure on the AQ keeper. The Golden Eagles did hit pay dirt in the 19' when James Pipe pounded a header into the far post on a Diego Bobadilla (SR/Holland, Mich.) corner kick to give Cornerstone a 1-0 lead. The Nimmo brothers (Garrett Nimmo (JR/Livonia, Mich.) and Kevin Nimmo (SO/Livonia, Mich.)) teamed up for the second goal in the 34' when Garrett beat his man down the right side and hit a perfect cross to Kevin making a run towards the goal and his header from about six yards also found the net just inside the far post.

The second half proved to be a lot different for the Golden Eagles. The Saints had the ball a lot more and created a few good chances but they couldn't find the way past GK Nick Hopkins (JR/Ada, Mich.). Aquinas outshot Cornerstone 9-3 in the second half of play and forced Hopkins to make eight saves.
