Olivet Nazarene hands men’s tennis first loss

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In the second home match of the weekend, Cornerstone battled a tough Olivet Nazarene team who ultimately swept the Golden Eagles 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.  CU adds its first blemish in the early season, and now holds a 2-1 record. Cornerstone will finish the home stand against Lake Superior State next Saturday.



Doubles Highlights: The Golden Eagles struggled at No.1 doubles as Elijah Yi (SR/Dallas, Texas) and Austin Hunt (SR/Odessa, Texas.) fell 8-1. The duo of Sam Ottosen (SO/Cairns, AUS) and Austin Hendrick (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) fell 8-4, while Santiago Mackrey (JR/Balcarce, ARG) and Andrew Son (SR/Keller, Texas) put up the strongest fight but lost 9-7 at No. 3.

 

Singles Highlights: After a forfeit early in the match due to injury, Cornerstone faced a deep hole. Ottoson and Hendrick showed promise in a pair of 6-4, 6-4 losses while Mackrey was the only team member to take his match to a third set as he fell 6-2, 0-6, 10-5.


What's Next? At 9 a.m. next Saturday CU will host Lake Superior State at NorthPointe Christian HS before heading to ITA regionals on September 17.
