GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A run in the middle of the first half put Cornerstone up by 14 and they were never seriously threatened for the remainder of the game as they posted a 74-61 win at home over Lourdes. The victory lifts the No. 16 ranked Golden Eagles to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the WHAC. CU will host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
Cornerstone came into the game off the heels of an emphatic 85-66 road win at No. 17 Aquinas and it showed no signs of letting up as they raced out to a 7-2 lead in the first 1:48 of the game. After Lourdes cut into the margin, CU then slowly started pulling away and led by 14 (38-24) at the break. Cory Cox (JR/Flushing, Mich.) connected on four triples in the opening 20 minutes to lead CU.
The Gray Wolves buckled down on defense in the second and limited Cornerstone's scoring and had the lead down to just eight (62-54) with just over five minutes to play. CU then got five straight points from Travis Wells (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) and the Golden Eagles held off a late LU rally.
