GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Kyle Steigenga (SO/Holland, Mich.) scored a season high 28 points and threw down three monster dunks to lift the No. 13 ranked Golden Eagles to a 79-66 win over UM-Dearborn. The victory, CU's fourth straight overall, lifts them to 18-5 on the year and 13-3 in league play. Cornerstone will remain at home on Wednesday when they host Siena Heights at 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
The opening 15 minutes was back and forth as each team had their small spurts to take slim leads but the last five was controlled by the Golden Eagles to go into halftime leading 43-35. After the score was tied 35-35, CU got eight straight points from the combination of Kyle Steigenga, Cory Cox (JR/Flushing, Mich.) and Travis Wells (SR/Eaton Rapids, Mich.) to go into the break with momentum on their side.
That momentum carried over into the second as CU slowly pulled away and two huge dunks from Kyle Steigenga ignited the crowd and the team as they built as large of an 18-point lead on multiple occasions. CU used its depth and bench to wear down the Wolverines as they cruised to their fourth straight win.
Say What?
"Kyle has gotten the attention of double and even triple teams this year and today he executed out of those to perfect. The fast break points are a good sign for our team." Head coach Kim Elders
