Trio of goals lead Women’s Soccer past Lourdes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – In a much needed win, the Golden Eagles put up three goals to defeat Lourdes in the final home match of the season. Cornerstone is now 8-6-1, 3-5-0 on the year as two games remain on the schedule before the WHAC tournament. The next match for CU will take place on Saturday at noon when they travel to no. 4 Northwestern Ohio.

Game Flow…
Cornerstone spaced the field well leading to long possessions and many scoring opportunities in the first half. The only goal in the half came off an own goal by Lourdes when Alexys Riksen crossed the ball in and the Lourdes defender tried to clear the ball out behind the net, but instead sent the ball into her own net giving CU a 1-0 halftime lead.

The Golden Eagles added insurance in the second half when Riksen again crossed the ball in and Bria West found the net in the 53' with an outside the foot shot that got past the Lourdes keeper Kiley Transit. CU then added one more goal in the final minute when Maddie Tassoni scored her second goal of the year on an assist from Meredith Haddad making the final 3-0.

Quotable…
"This is a good win for us knowing this is the team we had to beat to help the playoff picture. The team played well and they did what they had to do."  - Randy Strawser, Head Coach
