HUNTINGTON, Ind. –
Cory Cox was hot again today as the senior connected on five more 3-pointers in route to a game high 28 points to lead the No. 8 ranked Golden Eagles to an 87-76 win over host Huntington.
Sam Vander Sluis and
Kyle Steigenga joined Cox on the All-Tourney Team as CU improves to 4-1 with the win. Cornerstone will open WHAC play next Wednesday when they host Marygrove at 7:30 p.m.
Game Flow
Cornerstone jumped out to a big lead early by scoring eight of the first 11 points to lead 8-3. That lead continued to grow throughout the first half and after a pair of
Eric Readman free-throws with 9:28 to play, CU had a commanding 32-13 lead. The Foresters then fought back with some hot shooting and they closed the half on a 22-13 run to cut the margin to just 10 (45-35).
Huntington kept that momentum going into the second and had the lead down to as few as five (65-60) with 8:32 to play. The Golden Eagles responded in a big way as
Kyle Steigenga made a layup which was followed by a steal and triple from
Michael Bradshaw to put the lead back to double-figures. CU would not allow the margin to go under eight for the remainder of the game.
