GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone Volleyball team wraps up the 2016 regular season tonight as they head to Ann Arbor to face the Cardinals of Concordia University. The Golden Eagles enter the finale riding a 19-match winning streak and a win tonight clinches their first WHAC regular season title since the 2004 campaign.
Scouting Concordia
The Cardinals come into the week with an overall record of 16-17 while they are 3-12 in WHAC play. 6th year head coach Karen Graves and her team have struggled entering the season finale as they have dropped five out of their last six matches as the lone victory during that time came against Northwestern Ohio. CUAA has a veteran squad that features seven juniors or seniors and they have been led in 2016 by Claire Truskowski and Erica den Boer who run a 6-2 offense.
Last Time vs. the Cardinals
Concordia came into Mol Arena back on October 5 and took the opening set 25-20 but CU rallied to win 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 to complete the 4-set win. The pair of middles for CU combined for 32 kills as
Ellie Van Laar posted 17 and
Kendra Zwart 15.
Winners and More Winners
Cornerstone is currently riding a 19-match winning streak and they have not lost since they played Lourdes back on September 21. The longest winning streak in program history is 22 which came during the 2004 campaign.
WHAC Regular Season Picture
The East Division champion will be Madonna as they hold a four-match edge over second place Indiana Tech but the west division is much closer as Lourdes (14-1) is tied with Cornerstone (14-1). The two teams split their regular season matches with each winning at home. A win by either clinches a WHAC regular season crown on Wednesday.
