WESTVILLE, Ind. – The Golden Eagle offense could not get anything going in the first road test of the season, shooting just 23.1% from the field in a 58-43 loss at No. 12 Purdue Northwest. Cornerstone falls to 1-1 on the year now as they will stay in Westville for a game tomorrow against Robert Morris University that will conclude the Tip Off Classic. The opening tip for that match against the Eagles is set for 1 p.m. EST.
Game Flow
Cornerstone hung tough with the No. 12 team in the country, as the first quarter was a defensive battle where CU put up just seven points and gave up just 11 to the Pride. PNW got off to a hot start in the second quarter scoring seven straight to bring the lead to 18-7 before a few jumpers by
Jesse Sheridan and layups by
Mari Bugg brought the Purdue Northwest lead back down to just three at halftime.
The second half is where the Pride really started to pull away as once again they went on an early run to begin the third quarter scoring the first six points out of the break. CU hung in for as long as they could, but a 2-23 mark from behind the arc allowed Purdue Northwest to gain a game high 19 point lead in the fourth quarter resulting in a 58-43 final score.
