Second half run gives LTU 73-61 win over Women’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Golden Eagles could not hold on to a 13 point third quarter lead, as receiving votes Lawrence Tech came back to score 49 second half points to earn a 73-61 road win. Cornerstone now moves to 7-6, 5-3 WHAC on the year, a game behind Lawrence Tech in conference play. CU will take a break from conference action, and continue play vs. Saint Francis of Indiana on Tuesday at 12 p.m.

Game Flow
In a heavily defensive battle, both sides held the opponent to early scoring droughts, as LTU did not get on the board for the first 1:55 of the game and CU did not score in the last 4:42 of the first quarter. Cornerstone began to find their stride in the second quarter putting up 19 points led by three buckets from behind the arc, two of those from Jesse Sheridan and one from Lizzy Otten giving CU a 29-24 halftime lead.

Cornerstone continued to clique offensively to begin the third quarter to get out to a game high 13-point lead. Lawrence Tech then stepped it up defensively, creating eight second half turnovers and shooting 64.3% from the field to end the game on a 48-23 run. Nicole Buckingham, after going 0-10 in the first half, went 5-8 in the second half to be one of three Blue Devils to finish the game with 18 points. Jesse Sheridan led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 24 points going 8-16 from the field. 

By the Numbers
4 – Each team made four threes in the game; CU went 4-13 and LTU went 4-19.
13-6 – Cass Vredevoogd had 13 points and a team high six rebounds before fouling out at the end of the third quarter.
 34-22 – CU was outscored 34-22 in the paint.   
45 – 45 free throw attempts were taken in today's game, as CU went 13-20 and LTU went 17-25
36-11 – Lawrence Tech recorded 36 points off the bench to Cornerstone's 11.

Cornerstone will have a short turn around as they will host non-conference opponent Saint Francis of Indiana at noon on Tuesday.
