GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Another strong performance by
Cass Vredevoogd wasn't enough for the Golden Eagles in the conclusion of the DU Holiday Classic, as they fell to Bethel 66-59 in overtime. Cornerstone goes 0-2 in the DU Holiday Classic and is now 8-8 on the season. CU will return to conference action on Wednesday, as they travel to UM-Dearborn for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
Game Flow
Cornerstone got off to a hot start in this one, especially on defense, allowing Bethel to score just two points in the first 7:34 of the game, earning an early 15-2 lead. Bethel was then able to find their rhythm in the second quarter scoring 16 points to cut the CU lead to just four at the half. The Cornerstone bench saw significant minutes in the first half scoring 10 of the 29 first half points led by
Taylor Richards four points, five rebounds, and one steal.
Bethel continued their comeback into the third quarter, managing to take their first lead of the game with 7:34 remaining in the period. They continued to add on that going up 44-38 in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Cornerstone was then able to comeback to tie it at 51 at the end of regulation due to a 20-point performance by
Cass Vredevoogd.
Cornerstone battled in the overtime, but a 4-5 mark from the field by the Pilots and a huge three pointer by Lauren Grewe helped Bethel earn their third win of the season 66-59 over the Golden Eagles.
By the Numbers
