Pair of double-doubles lead Men’s Hoops to 83-64 win

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Kyle Steigenga and Sam Vander Sluis each posted double-doubles as the Holland Christian duo led the No. 2 ranked Golden Eagles to an 83-64 win at Lourdes on Wednesday night. The victory is the eleventh in a row for Cornerstone as they improve to 11-1 on the season and 5-0 in the WHAC. CU will play host to Madonna University on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Game Flow
Lourdes, under the direction of a new coach for only the second time since they started their program, gave the Golden Eagles fits early on thanks to some stellar defense and poor CU shooting. Just under five minutes into the game, Cornerstone got back to back buckets from Vander Sluis and Steigenga and the margin slowly grew for the remainder of the half, with the Golden Eagles leading by nine (33-24) at the break.

Coming out of halftime, that lead grew quickly as the shots started to fall for CU as they opened it on an 18-3 run to push the lead to 22 points after a Steigenga 3-point play. Michael McLaughlin then accounted for the next nine CU points as he scored seven of them and assisted on the other, which was a Cory Cox layup that put Cornerstone up 24. Their largest margin was 26 as Lourdes connected on four triples in the final five minutes to bring the final outcome under 20 points.

Say What?
"This is a good road win for us and we got some solid play out of our bench. Its good to see those guys step up as we will continue to need them as the season goes along." Assistant Coach Travis Wells
