ALBION, Mich. – After four months off from competition, the men's tennis team got their spring started with a 9-0 sweep of Albion College on Saturday evening. Head coach Dan Erickson and the team improve to 6-1 overall as they will take part in the West Michigan Doubles tournament next weekend hosted by Hope College.
Doubles Highlights: In three solid matches to open the day, Cornerstone got wins by the finals of 8-4, 8-4 and 8-6 to sweep the three points heading into singles. The closest match was played at No. 3 behind the Golden Eagle duo of Dan Ribbink (FR/Norton Shores, Mich.) and Austin Hendrick (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.).
Singles Highlights: Cornerstone came out strong in singles as Hendrick won his No. 1 match 6-1, 6-4 and it was one of six straight set wins for CU on the evening. Santiago Mackrey (JR/Balcarce, ARG) won by the most convincing score of 6-1, 6-0 (at No. 2 singles) while Andrew Son (SR/Keller, Texas) won 6-2, 6-0 (at No. 5).
Next Up? Cornerstone will play in the West Michigan Doubles tournament hosted by Hope College next weekend.
