Scouting Spring Arbor (Mich.) – Head coach Nathan Miller (Fourth Season)
The Cougars are coming off a 2015 campaign in which they posted an 11-6-3 overall record while going 5-3-1 in the Crossroads League. Head coach Nathan Miller returns five seniors, five juniors and seven sophomores while welcoming in nine freshman to the squad. The two leading scorers for SAU both return in Morris Kamara (9 goals and 3 assists) and Michael Caccavo (6 goals and 2 assists) while Colbi Piper will man the net once again after getting 15 starts in goal in 2015.
Season Opener
The Golden Eagles are 4-5-2 in their last 11 season openers but this will be the first time in the last three that they play it inside the CU Soccer Stadium. Last season, Cornerstone fell on the road to Bethel College 1-0.
Home Opener
Cornerstone will play four of their first six games at home including the season opener on Saturday against Spring Arbor. The last time CU hosted SAU in their home opener, it was the visiting Cougars that came out on top in overtime 1-0 in 2014. The Golden Eagles are just 1-3-1 in their last five home openers as they defeated Goshen 3-0 in 2015.
Last Time vs. Spring Arbor
The Golden Eagles and Cougars met last season in Spring Arbor and it was the home team that came away with the victory. SAU posted the lone goal of the match in the 58' and despite a fury of shots down the stretch, CU was unable to come up with the equalizer.
History vs. the Cougars
Cornerstone and Spring Arbor have met the last three seasons with the Cougars holding a 2-1 lead. SAU posted wins in 2014 and 2015 as CU posted their last win over their foes from across the state in 2013 when they won 2-0.
