Men’s Soccer looking for first win with two CCAC foes up next

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's soccer team enters their third week of competition still looking for their first win as they will face a pair of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foes this week. CU will host Saint Xavier (Ill.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Trinity International (Ill.) on Saturday.

Opponent: Saint Xavier (Ill.)
Date: Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Time: 6 p.m. EST
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.

Scouting Saint Xavier (Ill.) – Head coach Ed Vucinic (13th Season)
The Cougars have played a very difficult schedule so far as they have fallen 2-0 to No. 1 Rio Grande, 2-0 to WHAC-foe Aquinas and 2-1 to No. 12 Campbellsville (Ky.). Head coach Ed Vucinic and his team will enter Wednesday's match in the same way CU is, looking for their first win. So far on the season, Danny Lopez has the lone goal for SXU while Frank Valle has played all three contests in goal and has a .750 save percentage and 2.00 GAA.

Opponent: Trinity International (Ill.)
Date: Saturday, September 3, 2016
Time: 3:30 p.m. EST
Location: Deerfield, Ill.

Scouting Trinity International (Ill.) – Head coach Patrick Gilliam (12th Season)
The Trojans opened their 2016 season last week with a 3-2 setback at the hands of WHAC-foe Concordia (Mich.). Head coach Patrick Gilliam and his team have a pair of matches this week against Clarke (Iowa) and Bluefield (Va.) before hosting the Golden Eagles on Saturday. Zach Reget and Nathaniel Michaelis recorded the pair of goals for TIU in that contest while Jared Yonke and Brad Stough split time in net.

Last Time Out
Cornerstone suffered a pair of defeats last week as they fell 1-0 to Holy Cross (Ind.) and 2-0 to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). The pair of setbacks dropped the Golden Eagles to 0-3 on the season.

Last Time vs. Saint Xavier
Last season, the Cougars of SXU posted a 1-0 victory over Cornerstone in Chicago. Ricardo Aldape scored the lone goal of the match with just less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation. CU finished the match with 10 shots (five on goal).

Last Time vs. Trinity International
It has been eight years since the Golden Eagles and Trojans have met on the pitch as CU posted a 2-1 win back in 2008. The Golden Eagles got goals from Nathan Wood and Matt Kunnen while Dan Kerstan posted the win in goal as he finished with six saves.

History vs. Week's Foes
Cornerstone and Saint Xavier have been regular foes over the past seven years and the Cougars hold an advantage in the five meetings, leading that time frame 4-1. The lone win for Cornerstone came during the 2014 season at home when the Golden Eagles won 2-1.
