GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Cornerstone volleyball team heads out to Nebraska this weekend for the annual Bellevue Labor Day Classic. The tourney, which features 25 teams, starts on Friday and runs through Saturday evening. Cornerstone will play Peru State, the host Bruins, Culver Stockton and Briar Cliff in their four matches beginning with Peru State on Friday at 10 a.m. EST.

The Bobcats boast an 8-1 record under interim head coach Joan Albury. Peru State has won its last five matches all via a 3-0 sweep as they won their own tourney with wins over York, Mayville State, Johnson and Wales and Presentation. PSC had five players averaging over 2.0 kills per set led by Rian Kirby (2.72) and Kira Shapiro (2.71).

SCOUTING BELLEVUE
The host Bruins come into their annual Labor Day Classic with a 4-4 mark as they continue to play some of the strongest competition across the country. 11th year head coach Trish Siedlik and her team went 2-2 last week while picking up wins over No. 13 Dordt and No. 24 Northwestern (Iowa). BU is led on offense by senior Pakalana Helekahi who is averaging 2.94 kills/set and is second on the team with 81 digs.

Head coach Caren Kemner is in her 6th season at the helm of the program and has a veteran group in 2016 that is off to a 1-3 start. The Wildcats, who feature seven upperclassmen, won in their final contest over Bethany College at the Missouri Valley tourney last weekend. Madeleine Halford led the team with 24 kills as seven different players had at least 10 on the weekend.

The Chargers have played some tough competition so far in 2016 as they went 2-2 at the Red Raider Classic in Orange City last weekend. Fourth year head coach Trevor Schirman has a big roster that features over 25 players. Briar Cliff has been led on offense Courtney Schafer (35 kills) and Nicoletter Lavulo (34 kills). Breanne Hankins is the top defender for the Chargers as she is nearing 100 digs through the first four matches.
